The Full Story

Pool Transformation

As the CEO of a real estate investment and sustainability-focused management firm, my goal with this project wasn’t just to make a pool look pretty — it was to strategically invest in a high-impact renovation that aligns with both lifestyle value and long-term asset appreciation.

This transformation was about turning an underutilized, outdated space into a modern, resort-style outdoor retreat that not only photographs well, but performs well — as a short-term rental, a family gathering space, or a long-term lifestyle investment.

 Timeline

  • Total Time: ~8 weeks from demolition to completion

  • Planning & Design: 2–3 weeks

  • Demo & Site Prep: 1 week

  • Concrete + Pool Finish: 3 weeks

  • Landscaping + Furnishing: 2 weeks

  • Final Cleanup + Finishes: 1 week

We staggered the trades intentionally to minimize downtime and coordinate deliveries, which kept the timeline tight   without compromising quality.

Underutilized Pool Area

The original backyard at 1548 Via Rancho Pkwy featured a dated flagstone deck, basic fencing, uneven grading, and minimal outdoor functionality. Though the pool had potential, the surrounding space lacked safety, comfort, and curb appeal—especially for guests or prospective renters.

  • Maximize functionality for guests and family

  • Reduce long-term maintenance and water use

  • Increase rental income and home value

  • Create a visual connection between the pool, guesthouse, and surrounding landscaping

  • Replace cracked flagstone with sleek, modern concrete decking

  • Incorporate low-water, low-maintenance landscaping

  • Add poolside seating for relaxation and gathering

  • Enhance aesthetics while preserving native elements

  • Ensure accessibility and safety across all areas

Vision

We envisioned turning this outdated backyard into a sustainable, resort-style retreat that would:

  • Drought-tolerant landscaping: Replaced grass with citrus trees, succulents, and agave to reduce water usage.

  • Solar integration ready: Site grading and conduit layout allows easy tie-in for future solar or battery storage.

  • Concrete decking: Durable, low-maintenance, and installed with efficient drainage.

  • Reused materials: Portions of old fencing and native stone were salvaged and repurposed into retaining edges and planter beds.

  • Optional EV + pool equipment upgrades: Pre-wiring for variable speed pumps or future EV charging.

  •
